Objectives & Functions
Acting as the depository agency for the Government of the Sultanate of Oman.
Issuing the national currency, supervising its circulation, preserving its value and managing foreign assets.
Regulator of the Oman`s commercial banks, specialized banks, finance and leasing companies and money exchange houses.
Making advance payments to the Government in respect to temporary deficiencies in recurrent revenues.
Managing local public debt on behalf of the Government.
Maintaining, at all times, a part of the Sultanate`s foreign assets as cover for the currency in circulation at prescribed ratios.
Advancing credit to local banks and engaging in investment activities through the purchase & sale of financial instruments.
Determining discount and rediscount rates.
Providing clearing house and payment services for all member banks.
Acting as the advisor of the Government in economic matters in general & monetary & financial matters in particular.
